Health and Safety Manager:

Responsible for continued development, coordinating, delivery and reporting of Graham Bros. Health, Safety and Environment Policies, Programs and Systems for our construction, industrial, mining and office workers, including preparing, coordinating and implementing the necessary procedures in order to maintain the COR safety certification designation for the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting upper management in sourcing and hiring of staff for the Health and Safety Department. Managing staff within the Health and Safety department including scheduling, assigning of tasks, monitoring performance, performance evaluations, mentoring, training and discipline.
  • Track and maintain the budget for the department including expenditures on safety related items and training throughout the company.
  • Liaise with MOL, WSIB, MTO (CVOR) and IHSA, developing and nurturing positive relationships with these agencies. Keep senior management abreast of legislative and procedural changes within these agencies that can affect company business and make recommendations for necessary adjustments to Company procedure and policies to senior management in order for the Company to remain compliant with current legislation. Maintaining and upgrading the Company’s knowledge regarding industry practices and provincial health and safety legislation.
  • Conduct and record field level hazard assessments and safety inspections; conduct field level safety meetings, tailgate talks, and company joint health and safety committee meetings and HS&E informational awareness; perform incident investigations and reporting; administration, documentation and management of WSIB claims; implementation of early return to work solutions and prevention of lost time initiatives; participate in the documentation and management of the Company’s CVOR program; promote company and regulatory health and safety practices in the workplace; maintain a company database for employee training; maintain a company database for key indicators such as incidents, close calls, MOL orders, lost time injuries, etc…; maintain a company database for supervisor deliverables such as tool box safety talks, safety inspections, safe start meetings, and conduct hazard assessments; provide Management with monthly, quarterly and annual reviews; and update the Company Health and Safety Management System.

Qualification:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience coordinating and managing health and safety for heavy civil construction projects with a solid understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”)
  • Bachelors Degree, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), and COR Auditor. National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of COR.
  • An understanding of the CVOR system
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Understanding of the WSIB system and return to work program
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Excel, Word software and Powerpoint
  • A good understanding of budgets and costing
  • A good understanding of Book 7 traffic control procedures

Senior Estimator/Project Manager:

Responsible for the preparation of estimates and management of successful bids, this individual should have a minimum of 8 years estimating and management experience in heavy civil construction and an excellent understanding of MTO and municipal construction drawings and specifications. Advanced oral and written communication skills, a good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and scheduling software, as well as, a strong understanding of financial costing, are prerequisites. The candidate must have a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a company environment. Preference will be given to those having a P. Eng. or C.E.T. designation. Field Engineer/Quality Control Administrator (QCA):

The Field Engineer/QCA will be responsible for design work related to contractor designed support and protection systems, oversight work during construction, production tracking, scheduling, and monitoring productions. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager and Project Engineer, the Field Engineer/QCA is responsible for the day to day project quality in production, and oversight of all structural work on the project. The selected candidate will also work independently and alongside the Project Supervisor, Structure Supervisor and Project Manager to ensure that the Quality aspects of the project are maintained and scheduled accordingly.

This role requires versatility as the selected candidate will be working on a variety of projects and is responsible for both the engineering and quality control aspects. The successful candidate will likely be working on a number of structures on various projects which could include structural demolition over highways or rivers, construction of new bridge structures, structural culverts, retaining walls, and protection systems.

This role is integral to ensure that the structural work completed meets the requirements of the contract, and that the appropriate structural systems and procedures are designed and implemented on the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and monitoring of in-house engineering
  • Analyze and review the as-built design
  • Provide support to the Structural Superintendents and Project Managers
  • Schedule, control & review material delivery to and from site
  • Schedule subcontractors & internal staff appropriately to maintain the contract production schedule
  • Monitor production rates and costing
  • Provide assistance to the Project Supervisors
  • Review and assess quality aspects of production
  • Maintain and monitor quality aspects of the project
  • Assist in updating of the critical path schedule
  • Assist in production of monthly pay certificates
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting for the safety department
  • Liaise with Owner/Owners representative/subcontractors
  • Provide deliverables in accordance to the specified timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering Science or Equivalent experience
  • Strong time management and prioritization capabilities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to interpret/review/understand Contract Drawings
  • Understanding and design experience related to steel design, concrete design, timber design, and familiarity with design manuals such as the CHBDC
  • Familiar with scheduling programs such as Microsoft project, Primavera, etc…
  • Experience with CAD and survey equipment is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of Standards and Specifications (OPSS)
  • Knowledge of asphalt laboratory and field testing/sampling procedures
  • Knowledge of aggregate laboratory and field testing/sampling procedures
  • Knowledge of concrete laboratory and field testing/sampling procedures
  • Certification for concrete, asphalt and/or aggregate testing would be beneficial
  • Class G driver’s license
  • Understanding of Book 7 and WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”)

Project Superintendent:

Responsible for the planning, coordination, direction and supervision of project operations while meeting budgets and schedules, this individual should have strong leadership, organizational and time management skills along with a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in road and highway construction.  The successful candidate would have a working knowledge of and experience with; construction schedules; budgets; municipal and MTO construction drawings and specifications; site safety including OHSA; traffic plans and staging including OTM Book 7 and; the coordination of subcontractors and materials.  The candidate must have a proven ability to work independently as well as successfully lead a team on projects ranging in value from $1M to $20M.   C.E.T., P. Project Manager:

The Project Manager (PM) will be responsible for the management and coordination of several heavy civil construction projects from award to completion, ensuring the projects maintain a safe work site, produce a quality product, remain on schedules, and are completed within budget.

The PM will represent the Company when dealing with project owners, their representative, subcontractors, suppliers, and other authorities and should therefore possess proficient written and oral communication skill. This individual should also be self motivated and prepared to carry out objectives with minimal guidance.

Some of the more specific responsibilities and qualification of the Project Manager are as follows:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Negotiate and prepare contracts with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with the Superintendent, all subcontractor work and suppliers deliveries
  • Create and update critical path schedules
  • Correspond with project owners and/or their representatives
  • Prepare extensions of time and claims
  • Negotiate extra work including claims and extensions of time
  • Coordinate any design requirements
  • Assist in coordination of the quality control testing and ensure submissions are timely
  • Ensure the preparation and submission of monthly progress billings are timely and accurate
  • In collaboration with the Safety Manager, address any safety issue or concerns
  • Liaise with project owner and/or their representatives
  • Review and approve invoices and subcontract payments
  • Assist the Superintendent with the coordination of major site activities
  • Prepare and ensure the timely submission of all deliverables to the project owner
  • Review monthly cost reporting and provide explanation of performance and suggestions for improvement
